People who have pet fur or pollen allergies know that it can be really irritating to have an itchy throat or congested nostrils. Nevertheless, these symptoms can happen even if you don’t suffer from a particular allergy. Have you ever experienced itchy throat or stuffy nose for no reason?

The reason for this is the existence of a number of particles and pollutants in the air, which we breathe in every day, and which cause these reactions. Fortunately, there is a natural remedy for this and the chances that you already have it at home are quite big. However, we are going to explain the causes of the swelling of the airways.

Histamine

Histamine is the natural response of the body to allergies. The number of allergens which can cause reactions in people are quite a lot and they are not restricted to pet fur or peanuts allergies. These allergens can include cigarette smoke, mold, dust and even some chemicals from the cleaning products.

Whenever you breathe in an allergen, the immune system frees histamines in the cells which are located in the nose and lungs. Next, histamine attaches to the blood vessels’ receptors and makes them dilated and larger. It also attaches to the receptors which are found in the nose’s tissue, thus causing itching, swelling and redness.

Antihistamines

Because histamines causes discomfort, people usually rely on certain medication to soothe their symptoms. One of the most common medications are the antihistamines, which are drugs that block or reduce the histamine release and that usually halts the allergic reaction very effectively.

Nevertheless, these can eliminate the symptoms, but they also cause a number of side effects, such as:
  • Confusion
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Moodiness or restlessness
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
Dry mouth Fortunately, there is a natural antihistamine and it does not have any side effects.

Oregano as a Natural Lung Cleanser

It is well known that oregano is a rich source of various beneficial nutrients, and it can also cleanse the respiratory system. It is abundant in terpenes, flavonoids, and carvacrol which are natural decongestants. It is also rich in rosmarinic acid which is also beneficial for allergy reactions.

According to a study which studied rosmarinic acid and its ability to prevent allergies reactions, it is really efficient in doing so. This acid has the ability to reduce swelling and build up which occurs during an allergy reaction.

Drinking diluted oregano is the best way to get its antihistamine benefits. First, hold a sip of water in your mouth and bend your head backwards while keeping your mouth open. Put two or three drops of oregano oil in your mouth and then swallow it. Drink more water afterwards.

You should do this three times a week at the maximum since oregano has potent antibacterial properties which kill both the bad and the good bacteria.
