Make this decoction and get an excellent sleeping aid

When we think about nutritious vegetables, lettuce definitely comes to mind owing to the variety of health benefits it has to offer.

One of the most interesting and probably least known strong points of green lettuce is that it acts as an excellent natural sleeping aid.

When I say lettuce, I mean the traditional Lactuca sativa species, which is usually grown specifically as a vegetable for salad dressings. Although in a lesser amount than other plants in its family (i.e. Lactuca virosa), lettuce contains lactucarium, a substance closely related to opium. Although opium does have a number of toxic effects, which I won’t be addressing in this article, the lactucarium compound differs from opium in this respect, and does wonders in relieving nervousness and tension.

Lactucarium endows lettuce with calming properties that render it an effective remedy for insomnia, but also for stomach and genital pain, urinary incontinence, neuralgia, heart palpitations and so on.

To fully enjoy its healing benefits, lettuce should be consumed in large amounts as part of salads with apple cider vinegar seasoning, preferably for dinner.

Nevertheless, the lettuce decoction is an ideal natural sleeping aid

You can obtain it by adding 75-80 grams of green lettuce leaves per liter of water. The preparation is very easy. Just boil the specified quantity of leaves in one liter of water for 30 minutes. Then strain the liquid using a tea strainer.

The resulting “tea” may not look very appealing to some of you. However, you can make the mixture more alluring to the eye and also boost its sleep-inducing effect by also adding some leek, sorrel and chervil.

Drink one glass of this mixture in between meals. If you ask me, I would go for the first option, namely the decoction made of green lettuce only. How about you? You can choose whichever alternative suits you best!

On the downside, though, traditionally grown green lettuce contains nitrites, which are a hazard to your health. For that reason, the recommendations given here are aimed exclusively at the organic varieties of the plant that are grown using state-of-the-art biotechnologies.
